Artist Biography

Born in 1976 in Tashkent (Uzbekistan) and a graduate of the National School of Fine Arts in Tashkent, Inna Sandler has been based in Paris since 2019.

Her artistic practice, developed through drawing, painting, and installations, explores themes of intimacy, memory, temporality, and fate. Her work, infused with both ancient and contemporary symbols, is rooted in a philosophical and poetic reflection on singularity, strength and fragility, and the resilience of the individual within contemporary society.

Among her most notable projects are Altérité (2021), a reflection on difference and the encounter with the Other; Jeu de Silence (Game of Silence) (2017), a sensitive exploration of suspended moments in which individuals confront their destiny; Mémoire (Memory), an ambitious project retracing the tragic history and transmission of her Jewish family heritage from Europe and Central Asia through artworks and archival materials; and the series Millefleurs (2016), a dialogue between historical density and inner sensitivity, inspired by the medieval tapestries of The Lady and the Unicorn.

Inna Sandler was awarded the French Institute’s residency program at the Cité Internationale des Arts (Paris) in 2015, for her project Dada, which centered on the figure of the horse and the military culture of the carousel. This project was later exhibited in 2016 at the National Gallery of Fine Arts of Uzbekistan. She subsequently returned for several residencies (2015, 2016, 2017, 2019).

Her work has been the subject of solo exhibitions in institutions and international galleries such as Galerie Saphir (Paris, 2023), as part of the European Days of Jewish Culture and Heritage, supported by the Ministry of Culture and under the patronage of UNESCO; Galerie Anthony Roth (Paris, 2021); the National Gallery of Fine Arts of Uzbekistan (Tashkent, 2010 and 2016); and the Royal Academy of Arts (London, Summer Exhibition, 2014). She has also participated in numerous group exhibitions, biennials and international events (Paris, Belgrade, London, Astana, Tashkent).

Inna Sandler’s works are held in private collections in France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Belgium, the United States, and Canada, as well as in public collections including the National Gallery of Fine Arts of Uzbekistan and the National Bank of Uzbekistan.
